Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 19389 Submitted By: Suz Submitted on: November 16, 2009 Subject: DMSA vs EDTA Question: Hello Dr.Cinque, I live in Ventura County CA and I am looking for a holistic practitioner. I would like to begin a chelation therapy for mercury toxicity. I am confused about DMSA versus EDTA and I also have Gilberts Syndrome which I have read can be a result of heavy metal toxicity. Do you recommend or have any suggestions about how and what to use? Thank you. Dr. Cinque's Answer: For mercury chelation, I think that DMSA is best. But EDTA is also effective, and sometimes people don't tolerate the DMSA very well, in which case they can try EDTA. And sometimes people will do a course of one and then a course of the other. I would not do both at the same time. Yes, Gilbert's Syndrome is related to copper toxicity. As far as finding a holistic doctor, I suggest you contact the American College for Advancement in Medicine or ACAM. Their members consist of medical doctors who are trained in both conventional and wholistic, nutritional methods. They offer a doctor locator based on zip code, and here is the link: http://www.acamnet.org/site/c.ltJWJ4MPIwE/b.5457441/k.5E5F/Welcome_to_PhysicianLink__18005323688_/apps/kb/cs/contactsearch.asp |
