Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 19119 Submitted By: Marie Submitted on: June 2, 2009 Subject: DMSA and kidneys Question: About the adult dosage for DMSA....... Is there a risk to the kidneys, assuming the kidneys are in good health, if an adult with elevated lead levels takes 2-3 DMSA pills on alternate days? Thank you Dr. Cinque's Answer: Assuming you take them in divided doses, no, I don't think there is any risk of damage to your kidneys. DMSA is used in renal scans to determine if there is scarring from past infections and reflux, particularly in children. |
