Question No.: 19099
Submitted By: pg
Submitted on: June 1, 2009
Subject: national health insurance

Question:
Our daughter lives in Italy (she married an Italian) and has private insurance through her husband's company. They also have the national health insurance...which works for everyone over there. No one is without insurance and health care, which is more that we can say for this country. I asked my son-in-law how much they pay in taxes and he said probably about 45%. Well...if you add up all of our taxes, they are at least that. They are appalled at our property taxes. My point is that for their 45% they receive good health care, free university education for everyone, even free medical school. Yes...I know...it's called socialism but just think of what we could do in this country if we stopped spending ONE BILLION DOLLARS per day in Iraq and Afghanistan not to mention the billions daily to sustain 700 bases in 130 countries. Ron Paul is right on in his foreign policy.

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
Actually, I have gotten a lot of flak from readers over my stance on national health insurance, and maybe comparing with other countries was a bad idea. But I know how things go in this country, and when the government took over the pension system, forcing everyone into Social Security, collecting 15% of the earned income from everybody just for retirment (which is a lot) the result was that no money was actually put aside (saved), the system is run like a Ponzi scheme, (think Bernie Madoff but a million times worse) and when the tens of millions of Baby Boomers become eligible for benefits (which they indeed paid for) the jig will be up. So, if the US govt can't run a pension program honestly and responsibly and without bleeding it dry, what makes anybody think the same cast of characters can run a health care system?
