Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 19000 Submitted By: Bob Submitted on: May 7, 2009 Subject: timing of supplements Question: I've been tweaking my daily regimen over the past month or so, but am still a little unsure about the "timing" of some supplements. Is there a innate "cycle" in the daily metabolism (i.e morning requiring certain nutrients/ evening requiring others)? In particular I'm interested in the dosing of R-ALA,and B-Complex (vitamins). Thanks for any insight you can provide... Bob R. Dr. Cinque's Answer: I presume you mean R-LA, that is, R-Lipoic Acid, which is a supplement that I take in the morning. I follow the protocol of Dr. Bruce Ames, who says to take LA and ALC (Acetyl L Carnitine) in the morning. He's the Chair of the Biochemistry Department at Berkeley. B-complex you could take most any time, but likewise, I would be inclined to take them early in the day. Most of the hormones, such as DHEA, Pregnenolone, are taken in the morning, while melatonin, of course, is taken at night. Vitamins and minerals I take with food. Amino acids I take apart from food. VRP lists quite explicit dosing instructions on the labels. |
