Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18961 Submitted By: Anonymous Submitted on: April 21, 2009 Subject: lung scar tissue Question: Dr Cinque, Have you heard of lung crackles? My doctor said thats what he heard after an exam. He ordered a chest xray and it showed I have chronic scar tissue in my lungs. What causes it and do you have any supplements to help it? Thank you Dr. Cinque's Answer: I presume he just means crackling sounds that he hears with the stethoscope when you breathe. But I don't know of anything you can do to reduce scar tissue in your lung. Anything you were to try would be very speculative, and I don't know that it would be worth the effort. The best thing you can do for you lungs is to breathe clean air. I am not a fan of breathing exercises, at least not as they are usually taught. Dr. Dean considers N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) to be a valuable supplement for the lungs when there is mucus and congestion, but I have no reason to expect it to lessen scar tissue. I wish I could be more helpful; I'm sorry. |
