Question No.: 18802
Submitted By: Michael Solesbee
Submitted on: March 10, 2009
Subject: akaline water

Question:
A friend was bragging about the increased endurance he is enjoying since he started drinking Alkaline water. I tried to look it up on the internet and see what I could find, but its mostly hype from the companys selling it. What do you think of it? thanks, Mike Solesbee.

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
No, I do not endorse alkaline water. The main thing about water is that it should be clean, meaning uncontaminated with anything bad. Chemically, it's supposed to be neutral- neither acid nor alkaline. It's true that the body is alkaline (pH 7.4), and it needs to be alkaline. But, you maintain your alkalinity through your diet by eating lots of fruits and vegetables, which are alkaline. Even acid fruits, such as citrus, leave an alkaline ash when they are metabolized. So, eat lots of fresh produce; that's all you have to do. You do not have to concern yourself with alkaline water. Really, it's just a multi-level marketing scheme. Pay it no mind.
