Question No.: 18801
Submitted By: Charlie
Submitted on: March 9, 2009
Subject: pink eye

Question:
Doc, I seem to have come down with pink eye, not sure what type. I have had a chest cold and it is clearing up when my eyes started acting up this morning. Any suggestions on this condition. thanks, Charlie

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
Well, if it's viral conjunctivitis related to the cold, there really is no treatment. If it's bacterial, then a medical doctor could prescribe some antibiotic drops to put in your eyes. VRP used to offer ocular drops with colloidal silver, but not any more. It's a shame because that would have been good. But, I wouldn't be afraid to use the prescription eye drops of they are recommended. There is also such a thing as allergic pink eye, but it doesn't sound like it's that. And no matter what kind of conjunctivitis it is, putting warm compresses over your eyes makes them feel better and seems to help.
