Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18764 Submitted By: Aja May Submitted on: February 28, 2009 Subject: parabens in skin cream Question: Dr.Cinque, A friend had skin cancer removed from her hands and she has come across an oil which appears to be working wonders for her skin and scars. It is called MATSIMELA TISSUE OIL - BAOBAB SEED. She reports that the tissue oil and the baobab oil have anti-inflammatory properties and relieve dry and irritated skin. She applies it directly onto the skin and gentle massages it in. The ingredient list is: Parrafinum liquidum, Isoproopyl myristate, Decyl oleate, ethyl hexyl stearate, Olea europa (olive oil), Caprilyc/capric Triglyceride, Dicaprilyl Carbanate, Trimethylopropane tricaprilate/tricaprate, Cetearyl ethylhexanate, Ethoxydiglycol oleate, Triticum valgare (wheatgerm oil), DL - a Tocopherol acetate, parfum (Boabab), Propylparaben. She is concerned about the parabens in the ingredient list and is unsure about the rest of them as well. Would this preparation be safe and beneficial for her hands? Thank you. Aja Dr. Cinque's Answer: I am not familiar with all those ingredients either, and forgive me, but I will not be looking them up. I'll let you or her do that. But regarding parabens, I wouldn't worry about them. Parabens occur naturally in blueberries and other berries, which I eat all the time. I can't imagine they could hurt her rubbing them into her skin. |
