Question No.: 18760
Submitted By: Bob
Submitted on: February 23, 2009
Subject: nasal scar

Question:
Short of having some sort of cosmetic procedure done, is there any appllication I can apply to a couple of " deep pitted scars" that I have on my nose. I've tried Vitamin E,/liquid silica regimen for months, and all it relly did was kinda "soften" the look. Anything that would go sub-cutaneous and help build the skin there would be helpful. Thanks.

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
I don't think there is anything we have that would help that. But one idea would be to get a prescription for Retin-A. It's basically a mild irritant that causes the skin to slough off and be replaced by new skin underneath. And over time, if you use it nightly, it very well could help that scar recede. It's important to apply sunscreen daily if you use Retin-A.
