Question No.: 18680
Submitted By: Tabbie
Submitted on: February 4, 2009
Subject: Wilson's thyroid syndrome

Question:
Have you ever heard of WT3 protocol and if you have what are you thoughts on this medication?

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
Yes, I know about Dr. Wilson, and his syndrome and his protocol. And I must say, it's very intriguing. And it does address a rather perplexing medical issue, which is that sometimes patients present with symptoms of hypothyroidism, yet the standard testing (T3, T4, TSH) comes back normal. Dr. Wilson proposes that the symptom of low body temperature is the key, and the goal should be to restore the sensitivity of the receptors to T3. Dr. Wilson is surely a firebrand advocate for his theories, and he does have his share of followers. However, I will point out the orthodox medicine puts no stock in his theories, and the American Thyroid Association rejects his thinking completely. So, in a word, it's controversial. Very controversial. And I really don't have enough experience with it to have a strong opinion either way. My mind is open to it, but I am also cautious about it, and I'm not prepared to endorse it at this time, and partly because I just don't have that much experience with it. If it sounds like I am straddling the fence, I apologize. I wish I could be more helpful. Why don't you present the question to our medical director, Dr. Ward Dean? You can do so by sending an email to customerservice@vrp.com and ask them to please forward the question to Dr. Dean. Perhaps he will include it in the question/answer section of the VRP News.
