Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18679 Submitted By: Jim Walker Submitted on: February 3, 2009 Subject: faulty Vitamin D test Question: Hi Dr Cinique, I had a vitamin D test done by quest diagnostics in april 2007. The test results came back normal. Should my doc be calling me for a retest or should i check with him? what are some of the major symptoms of lack of vitamin d? Thank you. Dr. Cinque's Answer: I think if it were me, I would demand, or at least request, another test considering the news about Quest Lab. Maybe your normal results were miscalculated. As far as symptoms of deficiency, no, there are not going to be any. The consequences are all long-term, including an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer, and even dementia. But short-term, there really isn't anything that you can tie definitively to Vitamin D deficiency. There is suspicion that an increased vulnerability to catching influenza exists when you are low in Vitamin D. |
