Question No.: 18579
Submitted By: Bharat Patel
Submitted on: January 3, 2009
Subject: high BP, high cholesterol

Question:
Dr. Cinque Happy New Year. I shall be obliged if you would advice me on the folowing matter:- I am 54 yrs old, 30lbs overweight, very energetic, workholic, lack sleep, excercices 3 times per week at an intense level, suffer from mild Asthama. My libido is low and my erections are weak. There is no family history of Heart disease or diabetes.I have had a calcium scan done of my heart 2 years ago and there is no plaque. I also regurarly undergo regular stress tests on a treadmill and my echogram is clear. However, recently I have developed high BP and my cholestrol level is high. My good cholestrol is within acceptable limits. Last 4 months have been very stressful for me. I have a history of hyertension (measured by 24 BP readings)but no drugs have been prescribed and the synptoms do not continue. I am convinced that BP will come down if I reduce my weith by 30 lbs and adopt more regular sleep patterns. However, my Doctor has just prescribed for me Ramipril 1 10mg capsule Simvastatin 1 40mg tablet Asprin 1 75mg tablet Asthma 2 Seretide 100 accuhaler puffs per day I am not happy at all becoming drug dependent for life. I believe in herbs and natural ingredients. Having visited your website, I am seriously considering purchasing the following: 1 Full daily Extend Core Nutritional supplement program (how can one avoid taking 12 pills each day?) 2 Natural Libido enhancer 3 Amino edge 4 Cardiocare 5 Garlic tablets 6 Ginger extract 250 gm 7 Polycosanol 8 ThermoAMP90 Queations:- 1 Am I making the right choices? 2 Can you pipoint any risks? 3 How can i simplyfy the process of taking so many tablets each morning? 4 Should I still continue to take the tablets prescribed by my Doctor? 5 Please confirm to me that there are no side effects and my selection will not harm my body in anyway I look forward to your response. Many thanks Yours sincerely, Bharat Patel London 4th Jan 2009

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
I can't do detailed personal workups on this forum, sorry. But, I will say that, if it were me, I would NOT follow the medical advice you have been given. I wouldn't be reluctant to take the baby aspirin, but I would just take it on alternate days. And the asthma inhaler I would use as needed but as little as possible. But the statin drug I would not take, nor would I would take the blood pressure medicine. Regarding the supplements you listed, the Extend Core multi is just 3 caps a day, not 12, and that's what I take. Amino Edge you probably don't need. Garlic extract would not be high on my list either since you can just include garlic in your diet. Policosonol is perfectly safe, but it seems to provide only minor benefit. Ginger is mainly a natural anti-inflammatory. It might help, but I actually think Turmeric is superior. ThermoAMP is good for weight loss, but the first step in that endeavor is to switch to a natural, unrefined, whole plant-based diet. That's numero uno. I think you should consider LipiControl to get your lipids straightened out and also the new CoQ10-H2, which is highly superior to standard CoQ10. Reseveratrol seems like a must for you too. There are no worries about harm from any of the supplements mentioned. You should be more worried about the drugs. That's what can hurt you.
