Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18389 Submitted By: ssl Submitted on: June 23, 2008 Subject: Vitamin D and sarcoidosis Question: Hello. I have been reading such positive things about Vitamin D (D3) over the last year. I am 60, live in Normandy France (climate much like Maine), and am healthy and fit. I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 7 yrs. but it is extremely mild. I have never taken the drugs; I manage it with a special diet, exercise and a form of energy medicine (JMT, Neurolink, NMT and acupuncture/acupressure massage). I was alarmed to see your reference to vit. D and sarcoidosis. I read around on the internet and honestly couldn't tell which causes which: sarcoidosis can cause vit. D problems, or vit. D can cause sarcoidosis.??? I aim for around 1000 a day. Any thoughts you can share on this? Thanks, Sandi Dr. Cinque's Answer: I would not want to overstep my knowledge or experience with this, but I can refer you to a reseacher named Trevor Marshall, who is Australian. Marshall, himself, has sarcoidosis, and he is extremely knowledgable about it, he has been loudly sounding an alarm about excess Vitamin D causing havoc in sarcoidosis. So, you could do a search about him. However, I have never heard anything about Vitamin D causing problems for those with rheumatoid arthritis. On the contrary, Vitamin D seems to have a protective effect against that disease. |
