Question No.: 18378
Submitted By: cv
Submitted on: June 6, 2008
Subject: Niacin for high cholesterol

Question:
Dear Dr. Cinque, My husband and recently been sent to a heart specialist because of concerns with his latest cholesteral results being too high. After having an MRI, the heart specialist put him on a prescription medicine called: Simcor - Niacin Extended Release. He would rather take natural remedies. Have you heard of this medication and would do you approve of it? Thank you.

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
Well, I would sooner take Niacin for high choleterol than statin drugs. I don't really know if there is anything special about that particular product to make it better than the Niacin that we sell. But Niacin is a natural substance with a proven record at lowering cholesterol. So, I'm glad he chose that and not statins.
