Subject: high dose DMSA

Question:
After finding a 1.2 level of lead in my blood my doctor put me on NAC 1200mg two times per day, and Vitamin C 1500mg two times per day for two weeks. I am then to take DMSA 300mg three times a day for one day, and a shot of EDTA once. On the day of the DMSA, and the EDTA I will be collecting my urine for 24 hours. Is this high level of DMSA safe to take? What side effects if any will it cause if any? What can the 24 hour urine test prove?

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
Well, I presume he is testing you to see how much mercury comes out from that high dose of DMSA. And, it's perfectly safe to take that much as a one-time dose. I suppose you may get a little bit of stomach irritation from it, but that's the worst that can happen.
