Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18360 Submitted By: Eric Submitted on: April 30, 2008 Subject: DMSA Question: Dr. Cinque, I am interested in doing chelation therapy, but I have a few questions. Information you published (w ww.dmsa-chelation.info/) says that DMSA is effective for crossing the blood-brain barrier and removing metals from the brain. However, the following references indicate that chelators such as dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (DMPS) are unable to cross the brain-blood barrier and to remove mercury from the brain Dr. Cinque's Answer: Apparently, it's controversial the extent to which DMSA penetrates the brain, but what is not in dispute is that DMSA is the best mercury chelator there is, as it vastly increases urinary mercury excretion. And it does so safely and for most people, comfortably. So, regardless of the controversy regarding the blood-brain barrier, DMSA is the #1 best choice for eliminating mercury, if that is your objective. There is nothing better or safer. |
