Subject: enteric coated vitamins?

Question:
enteric coated vitamins? I have read a claim by a supplement company that their vitamins are better absorbed because they are protected from stomach acid by enteric coating so they get to the small intestine with all the nutrients intact.. what are your thoughts? do capsule vitamins get a good absorption rate by the body?

Dr. Cinque's Answer:
My understanding is that the purpose of enteric coating is to protect supplements that would be damaged by stomach acid. An example is SAMe, which must be enteric coated or else it breaks down in the stomach and loses its properties. But that does not apply to regular vitamins. Yes, capsules offer very high absorption and this has been proven.
