Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18328 Submitted By: eb Submitted on: March 12, 2008 Subject: panic attacks in 15 year old Question: my nephew is having panic attacks. he is 15 yrs old and just recently started. His father does not want to medicate him. he is starting to miss school because when the panic attacks happen, he wants to leave his environment. His mother died 3 years ago and has been through a lot. Any recommendation as to what he can take to decrease these attacks, or eliminate them completely? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. Dr. Cinque's Answer: I think his father is right not give him Xanax or other similar tranquilizers. Such drugs are highly addictive, and if he is going to get started on them at 15, what does he have to look forward to? I would recommend Theanine, which is the calming amino acid from green tea. I'd also suggest Opti-Mag because extra magnesium tends to have a calming effect. And I think that calming herbs may also be considered, the best of which, in my opinion, is Lemon Balm. |
