Questions and AnswersQuestion No.: 18324 Submitted By: MONEERAY Submitted on: March 4, 2008 Subject: sulfur in DMSA Question: Hello, I am allergic to sulfa medications, does this mean that I shouldn't take the DMSA? What side affects will doctors be looking for? Thanks, M Dr. Cinque's Answer: Well, there is quite a lot of sulfur in DMSA, and it can be somewhat irritating, although most people do tolerate it with no big trouble. I would say in your case, you should be cautious about it, and perhaps start with the 25 mg dose and build up gradually. If you take it with food, it's less likely to irritate your stomach. But that's about the worst thing that can happen. |
