Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid and a precursor of the stimulatory
neurotransmitters epinephrine and norepinephrine. Phenylalanine also acts as an
appetite suppressant and helps to regulate a person’s sense of well-being and
maintain mood elevation. L-phenylalanine is the form found in nature and
studied as a mood elevator, cerebral stimulant and appetite suppressant.
Recommended dosage: one to four capsules per day. Caution: Use only as
directed. Not for use by children, pregnant or lactating women, by persons with
the genetic metabolic disorder PKU, psychosis, hypertension, pigmented
malignant melanoma, cancer, violent temper, or persons taking Rx MAO inhibitor
drugs. Excessive consumption of phenylalanine may cause symptoms of excessive
stimulation: tremors, rapid heartbeat, irritability or insomnia. In case of
excessive stimulation or insomnia, reduce consumption by half, and avoid intake
during the late afternoon or evening hours.
